CORPORATE INFORMATION
Total Health Trust Limited (“THT”) was founded in 1997 and commenced operations in the year to June 1998. It is a leading health maintenance organisation (“HMO”) in the emerging managed care sector of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. With about 250,000 members or subscribers (or about 8% of the estimated population of the organised private sector with medical insurance coverage) at December, 2008, it is one of the largest HMO in the Country. THT is a “Medical Doctor- driven “HMO.
In accordance with developments in the Nigerian health insurance sector the Company is registered as a national HMO under the National Health Insurance Scheme (“NHIS”) as HMO /02, accredited to provide private pre-paid and national health insurance schemes. THT was reaccredited in 2009
In return for a fixed prepaid premium, the managed care sector; offers, arranges and coordinates the provision of health services and benefits for members (subscribers and their authorised dependents). Coverage is provided through the network of contracting providers. Benefits are defined and standardisation of the medical care given is governed by managed care rules and contract.
THT provides health care to individuals and corporate organizations. The Company, leveraging on its provider network, assumes control of the full spectrum of health care coverage to members during their subscription period. In keeping with its focus on customer service and promotion of member health, the Company has introduced a range of innovative cost-effective health plans and tariff structures. THT members can, in some circumstances, also benefit from international coverage.
The network consists of several (300 Private & 1,550 NHIS) accredited clinics and hospitals where quality of care is guaranteed via a suite of continuous monitoring. The network has points of presence in about 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The existing shareholders of the Company combine the medical services delivery experience of Health Assurance Consultants Ltd., and individual Nigerian medical doctors; with the insurance resources and reputation of Leadway Assurance Company Ltd.; the processing systems and the international exposure of Liberty Health and Liberty Group of South Africa.
The principal source of THT revenue is the premium paid by the individual and group subscribers. The most significant cost head of the Company is the ‘cost of care’, this is basically the preset capitation prepaid at set periodic intervals to providers on the basis of the number of members registered with each particular provider and the managed care (pre-negotiated) fee-for-service.
Since it commenced operations in 1998, the subscriber base of the Company has grown from 230 in June 1999 to 204,000 by June 2009.
The company now provides care to over 160 corporate clients and Federal public officers of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Environment and Nigeria Police among others.
